If the slowing is caused by another Windows process, this might help:

With VRPC not running, go to Program Files > VirtualRPC-*** > VAcfg, 
and load it into, e.g. Notepad. Here you will find a line starting 
ProcessorPriority. If this doesn't have = 3 after the word, change it 
so it does. Save the file, and start VRPC.

I had appalling problems with slowness while Windows Defender was 
doing its stuff, and this dodge sorted it. I think it's on the forum 
somewhere, but I can't find it.
