"The original" - depending what version that is, could be ancient, or just
very old.

Which modified version?  there have been many over the years.

AntiSpam has been maintained/developed ever since it first became available.
 If you're starting afresh I'd say you should get the most recent stable
version.  See: http://antispam.aconet.org/


When I moved my personal version from a real RPC to VRPC I found it did not
work because socket handling (ie the code that talks to other computers on
the internet) did not work the same way on VRPC as it does on a real machine
- because on VRPC socket support talks to Windows and the real socket
handling is done by Windows, I think.  Although I fixed my copy I didn't
keep accurate enough notes to know what all the changes I made were. 
However I believe that the same issues were covered when Frank de Bruijn
made his version work under VRPC.
