mine too are in sleeving, but there a slight gap where I can see the wires.

yes, my new battery worked straight off.  I have been through all the
receipt files, but can't find one for the battery.  It's very odd.  I
bought it off ebay about a year ago and it just worked.  There seem to be 4
ebay shops come up when doing a search for the battery number on the
casing: M22BAT-8.  None of the names is familiar, so sorry I can't help
further.
