I've been cleaning up my drives recently, getting rid of junk & ensuring my
backups are the latest versions. I have 2 HDDs setup, HardDisk5 being used to
store archive material.
I was sorting my DTP programs & was adding the latest OPro to my archive, but
when I checked the directory "DTP, etc" (sic) I was presented with a text
file of 0 bytes. First thght was that I lost 20Mb of programs.
Fortunately, when I moved my VRPC from my old Riscbook to a new RiscCube2, I
left the VPRC drives on the laptop as 'insurance'. So under Windows I copied
the folder to a pendrive. However, when I accessed the parent folder I was
surprised to find that 'lost' directory was intact. Hm...
After a moments thought, I removed the comma from the name, refreshed RISC OS
& the directory displayed.
I suspect I created this directory long before VRPC was born & commas were
used to 'hide' the filetype. Obviously, 'etc' can never be a valid filetype,
which is why, I presume, VRPC presented a null file to me.
Phew, scare over & lesson learnt!
As an aside, why does Windows call its directories 'folders' when to display
them under DOS used a DIR command? :-/
