You can certainly leave a VRPC in place if updating Windows.
 
However, there are reports of certain problems with Vista migrating
themselves into Windows 7 on an update. So I would recommend
taking a backup of the VirtualAcorn installation onto a DVD or
Pen Drive:
 
C:\program files\virtualacorn
 
Then backup anything and everything else, then perform a clean
install of Windows 7.
