Now I have input language English (UK) and keyboard (UK) on the PC side.
That changes the function of the PC keyboard to an English one as expected
(i.e. the # now displays the uk pounds sign).

But the main problem I wanted to solve was to get the keyboard to respond
under RISC OS with the chars as marked on the present keyboard. I can use
the alt keys for the occasional pound sign I guess, but not having a prime
or quote char, or square and curly brackets, is a pain.
